Sissy Spacek, J.K. Simmons In Amazon Prime Series – Deadline

“I need to see where all this leads,” says Sissy Spacek’s Irene York at one point in the first trailer for the upcoming Prime Video series Night Sky.

That line might be both metaphorical and literal as the retired English teacher, whose health is fading, sees her life with husband Franklin (J.K. Simmons) increasingly revolve around visits to a mysterious chamber buried in their backyard.

The series starring the Oscar winners previously was known as Lightyears. Check out the trailer above and the key art below.

Spanning space and time, Night Sky follows Irene and Franklin, a couple who, years ago, discovered a chamber that leads inexplicably to a strange, deserted planet. They’ve carefully guarded their secret ever since, but when an enigmatic young man (Chai Hansen) enters their lives, the Yorks’ quiet existence quickly is upended — and the chamber they thought they knew so well turns out to be much more than they could have imagined.

Kiah McKirnan, Julieta Zylberberg, Rocío Hernández and Adam Bartley also star in the series from Amazon Studios and Legendary Television. Simmons a year ago replaced Ed O’Neill, who originally was cast in the role.

Night Sky is created and co-executive produced by Holden Miller, with Daniel C. Connolly serving as showrunner and executive producer. Jimmy Miller, Sam Hansen and Philip Martin also serve as EPs.

The eight-episode first season premieres Friday, May 20, on Prime Video worldwide.
