Shawna Thomas is joining MS NOW as political director after her recent departure from CBS News, where she was executive producer of CBS Mornings.
Thomas will lead the network’s political unit and direct coverage of campaigns and elections, and will appear on MS NOW’s platforms, the network confirmed. She will start on June 8.
Thomas’ hire is expected to be announced later on Wednesday.

Thomas was EP at CBS Mornings for five years, and exited as the network’s new owners, Paramount Skydance, plan an overhaul of the program.
In a statement, Thomas said, “It will be an honor to work with everyone at MS NOW to help inform an audience that craves context and meaning, along with the political machinations of the moment. I get to reunite with Luke Russert and Peter Alexander, both of whom I produced for.”
She noted that she previously produced for Luke Russert and Peter Alexander, the latter of whom recently joined MS NOW, among other colleagues who she has worked with in previous roles.
Thomas previously was Washington bureau chief for Vice News and oversaw politics and policy coverage for Vice News Tonight on HBO. She worked at NBC News for a decade, including as senior producer of Meet The Press, and was a content development executive for Quibi. Politico first reported on her hire at MS NOW.
