Selena Gomez Is Producing a Working Girl Reboot—Here’s Everything We Know

We’re obsessed with watching Selena Gomez on TikTok, and we know we’re not alone. From her hilarious take on lip-syncing trends to beauty tips, the 30-year-old makes it easy to be a loud and proud  stan. The only downside? A TikTok video is a few mere moments—and we want more of our queen.

So when we heard that the “Lose You to Love You” singer is set to be involved in the 20th Century Studios reboot of 1980s hit Working Girl, we lit-er-ally couldn’t contain ourselves. So what’s going on? Well, according to a Deadline report, the multi-hyphenate is developing a Working Girl remake for the production company with Diary of a Future President creator Ilana Peña adapting the script. Not too shabby (and by that we mean, frigging amazing).

Just to get you up to speed on the story here, the original Working Girl stars Melanie Griffith as Tess, a working-class secretary with business ambitions. When her boss (Sigourney Weaver) breaks her leg, Tess uses her absence to impersonate her. She then strikes up a partnership with Jack Trainer (Harrison Ford), which is threatened by her ruse. The film was a huge hit at the time and racked up an impressive six Academy Award nominations.

Gomez is in final negotiations to produce the film, originally directed by Mike Nichols, but it is still unclear as to whether we will actually see her on screen as casting details have yet to be released.

According to Deadline, “20th Century sees this as a timely property and views Gomez as the perfect partner on the project,” which is expected to land at Hulu. The original is very much a relic of the ’80s, but there are lots of possibilities to modernize the story, particularly if Gomez and Peña explore the perspective of Latina women in the workforce. We can’t wait to see how the women interpret the office rom-com.

Where she has time for all of this, though, we have no idea, because she is also producing and starring in the HBO reality show Selena + Chef, a pandemic inspired series in which the locked down actor works with master chefs to brush up on her cooking skills (season four is set to debut on August 20, 2022). And, in the meantime, the singer is also reported to be working on her climbing skills in preparations for In The Shadow of the Mountain.

Selena Gomez, is there nothing you can’t do?
