Sea of Thieves is Getting Private Servers in a Smaller-Scale Game Mode

Sea of Thieves pirates rejoice as the news of a long-requested feature has made the rounds. Developer Rare recently announced that players will finally be able to play the game through private servers. Unfortunately, this new era of pirating will also come with some drawbacks for those who choose to use the new Private Server mode.

Private Servers will be a feature in the upcoming tenth season of Sea of Thieves. The new season, set to launch on October 10, will finally introduce the feature after five years of being asked by players. Players can now set up private servers in the form of Safer Seas. This new game mode allows players to sail the seas alone or with a chosen crew in their own private game session.

However, pirates who start a session through Safer Seas will also have to deal with reduced rewards. Additionally, the full wealth of content available within Sea of Thieves will not be accessible in this mode. The more competitive features of the game will remain in the more open and public lobbies of the game.

Also included in the new season is the introduction of Guilds, allowing pirates to band up together in groups of 24 under a single banner and sail on their friend’s ships, whether they’re online or not. Additionally, Guild members can square off against other pirates to unlock new rewards and work toward increasing the shared Guild Reputation.

Sea of Thieves is a multiplayer action-adventure pirating game and is currently available on Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S, and Microsoft Windows.
