Episode 1 of Secret Invasion introduced the audience to a very different Nicky Fury. Once again portrayed by Samuel L. Jackson, the master spy who was always three steps ahead of his opponents, returns to Earth, seemingly as a shell of his former self.
Facing his own mortality, and haunted by the events of the “The Blip,” Fury’s return to action is met by an inner circle who wonders whether or not the former head of SHIELD is fit to try and stop the impending Skrull takeover.

“[The bad guy] actually referred to Fury as ‘vapors of himself,’ which is harsh,” Jackson tells The Hollywood Reporter. “So it’s time to reassess or reevaluate who you are, what you’re doing and how you’re doing it. And throughout the course of this series, he finds ways to strengthen himself so that he can be up to the task at hand.”
Olivia Colman Joins The MCU
One of Fury’s many doubters is Sonya Falsworth, a high-ranking M16 agent played by Oliva Colman. Falsworth is portrayed as a long-time frenemy of Fury, who is blunt in her assessment that he is washed up.

“She does it, in a weird way, out of a sort of love. ‘Please be careful,’” Colman says with a laugh. “Her sort of love is a funny old thing, but I think she genuinely does mean it.”
For Colman, entering the MCU in Secret Invasion was like a dream. As it turns out, the actress had been trying to join the universe for years.

“Yes, I’ve been asking if I can join it for ages. I’ve been phoning my agent. I have loved watching all these films, particularly since having children. My two oldest are now teenagers, and we’ve watched them all together. So I would’ve said yes to anything they’d given me in this, actually,” she stated.

Whether or not Falsworth and Fury can team up to stop the Skrull invasion remains to be seen. For now, however, fans can simply sit back and enjoy the chemistry between these two Hollywood legends.
