S7E66- Lord of the Rings Animated Trilogy Retrospect (with JJ & Tom!)

JJ & Tom return for yet again another deep cut in animated cult film cinema: the two cheesy Rankin Bass Lord of the Rings TV movies as well as the rotoscoped Ralph Bakshi 1978 gem.

What are some of the neat faces here in these films and do they own the roles (including John Huston, Paul Frees, Don Messick, Orson Bean, Anthony “C-3PO” Daniels, William Conrad, Casey Kasem & John Hurt!)? Why did the Bakshi film deserve to make best animated movie lists of all time? And how well do they handle adapting the material versus being 2 hours of escapism?
