Ryan Reynolds interrupts his regularly scheduled snark for a rare earnest tribute to his wife, Blake Lively.
On August 25, the 46-year-old actor took a break from hilariously trolling his wife of nearly 11 years on her 36th birthday. “The only thing irrevocably mine in the world is the love and appreciation and awe I feel for this person,” Reynolds captioned a series of photos of Lively, including a bunch of adorable couple selfies.
In one of the pics, the mother of four could be seen wearing a sheer lace mini-dress with a black bandeau top during what appears to be a romantic beachside date night. Reynolds continued, “Witnessing her life is something I couldn’t take for granted if I tried. And believe me, I try. Happy Birthday, @blakelively. You hung the damn moon.”

Considering their history of poking fun at each other over social media, especially on their birthdays, fans were surprised by the sincerely sweet nature of the post. “Wait actual normal pictures,” one fan replied to the post. “Are you okay????????”
This response is likely in reference to the time Reynolds cropped Lively out of her own birthday photo in 2017, which she countered by sharing a photo of Barbie heartthrob Ryan Gosling on her husband’s birthday a few months later. The next year, Reynolds shared a series of photos where Lively was taken by surprise by the camera. In September 2020, Reynolds posted a birthday tribute to his dog after failing to post anything on Lively’s birthday. “This is almost as sweet as the birthday post you did for me this year,” Lively joked in the comments at the time.
In contrast, Reynolds’ sweet new post feels downright out of character, prompting some lighthearted concern from his Instagram followers. “Ryan’s probably being held at gunpoint by Blake bc there’s no other explanation he didn’t even post a bad picture,” a fan commented, while another wrote, “Is your account hacked? You’ve posted ALL good photos?!”
