RRR director received praise from James Cameron

S.S. Rajamouli found himself in awe that James Cameron loved and analyzed his work when he had a very warm conversation with him.

One of Netflix’s runaway hits of the year was the Bollywood action epic RRR. Chances are, even if you haven’t seen it, you have likely seen people’s reactions to it and even clips being shared from an insane animal unleashing scene. The film caught on like fire with American audiences and has even been nominated for Best Original Song for this year’s Academy Awards. Director S. S. Rajamouli is flying high with the attention, especially when someone like James Cameron loves your work and praises you for it, which is what happened, according to ComingSoon.

A video clip is currently making the rounds that is showcasing the Avatar: The Way of Water director giving a very warm reception to Rajamouli as the two meet at the 2022 Critics Choice Awards. Like many film buffs, Rajamouli cites Terminator as a favorite of his and names that, along with Titanic and Avatar, as inspirations to him. Cameron would then go on to gush about his favorite aspects of RRR.

Rajamouli, in turn, gushes about Cameron’s praise. He can be heard in the video clip exclaiming, “These words from you are more than an award for me. I mean, I can’t believe that you saw the film, and you’re analyzing my film. Oh my god.” Cameron adds how much he loved the score for the film, composed by M.M. Keeravani, calling it amazing and said it even made him want to stand up at certain moments. “I like the music to kind of stay out of the way and kind of come in and support when the audience is already feeling something, so it builds the theme. But you’re using the music very differently. He opens his eyes, boom! And you go with it, it’s like you feel like standing up. There are moments in that film where I just had to get up. I’m talking about watching it at home, I’m standing up!”

ComingSoon caps off the encounter with Cameron “congratulating them on how it must feel to have captured the praise of the entire world and telling Rajamouli that if he ever wanted to make a film in the United States, they could talk.”
