Rihanna and her critics may agree on one thing.
During a recent red-carpet event for her upcoming Savage x Fenty Show Vol. 4, which hits Amazon Prime on November 9, Rihanna described the fashion spectacle as “obnoxious”—though not for the reason others might. “Oh, this show is obnoxious,” she told one reporter with a laugh, per InStyle. “This one takes the cake. THIS is going to be the show to beat.”
Though Rihanna is clearly using the term the same way one might use “sick” in the place of “epic,” some might use it to describe Rihanna’s decision to feature accused domestic abuser Johnny Depp among the rest of her models and famous guests. The “Lift Me Up” singer first sparked backlash earlier this month when TMZ reported Depp’s upcoming appearance, though his name has been largely kept out of promotion for the fashion show.
While Depp won his highly publicized defamation case against ex-wife Amber Heard, he lost a separate libel case in the UK in 2018. “Johnny Depp has been embraced as a hero by unhinged right-wing misogynist extremists, and now he’s been invited to appear in the @SavageXFenty show,” Twitter user Drew Dixon tweeted on November 3. “Never expected such a powerful woman to succumb to the #MeToo backlash. Really disappointing @rihanna.”
