Rachel McAdams Made Sure Her Armpit Hair Wasn’t Edited Out of Her Latest Photo Shoot

Like most adults, Rachel McAdams grows hair in her armpits. It’s natural, normal, and totally okay. So why should she feel obligated to shave it off or have it photoshopped out of photos? Exactly.

For McAdams’s latest photo shoot, the 44-year-old actor specifically requested that all the images receive “minimal” retouching and the results are absolutely gorgeous. The pictures accompany a feature in Bustle, and you can see all the images here. This request is consistent with McAdams’s latest project, a film adaptation of Are You There, God? It’s Me, Margaret, a coming-of-age story about, among other things, puberty and dealing with your body. It’s a theme McAdams can relate to.

“I felt like a milking machine,” she told the outlet of her time on set, pumping between takes to feed her five-month-old daughter. After the birth of her first child in 2017, she posed for a different shoot with a breast pump alongside her couture ensemble. “I love that juxtaposition of beauty, glam, fantasy, and then truth,” she said.

“With this shoot, I’m wearing latex underwear,” she said. “But I’ve had two children. This is my body, and I think that’s so important to reflect back out to the world. It’s okay to look your best and work at it and be healthy, but that’s different for everyone.”

For more advice, check out this video, which includes glimpses of the aforementioned photo shoot and, yep, words of wisdom in regard to shaving. “Always have shaving cream,” she told her younger self, in part. “And then if you want to stop shaving again one day, that’s okay too.”

As for that other coming-of-age story about a girl trying to fit in that Rachel McAdams is associated with…she’s probably not going to be in the Mean Girls musical movie. “I don’t see a way to shoehorn [the original cast] in,” she revealed. But “if Tina [Fey] can figure it out, I’m there, for sure.” Manifesting this!
