Key quote: Sutherland: “For me, people have been drawing lines between this and 24, and all I can say is that outside of them both being thrillers, they couldn’t be more different. John Weir, as a character, has a fantastic sense of humor, and I get to play off Meta [Golding], who has amazing timing and is an incredibly talented actor and comedian, and that was a new aspect for me as an actor, with this character, to delve into. And then obviously John and Glenn are beautiful writers who have layered in these fantastic textures into what is normally a thriller that allows it to develop a kind of romantic side and a humorous side, all while moving at a thousand miles an hour where the consequences are life and death. I know that sounds impossible to do, but these guys are very good.”
The Deadline Studio at SXSW runs March 10-13, where the cast and creatives behind the best and buzziest titles in this year’s lineup sit down with Deadline’s festival team to discuss their movies and the paths they took to get to Austin, Texas.
