It’s always funny to watch Hollywood trying to make a parody of itself. And, it seems, they’re loving observing themselves from the sidelines. However a TV series about a reboot of a TV show was always going to be a pretty difficult challenge for any director.
Without any doubt, the main goal is to show the real face of the television industry and all the difficulties and the absurdities they have on a daily basis. Is this easy to show on the screen? Well, Steven Levitan (‘Frasier‘, ‘Modern Family‘) thinks so.
What You Can Expect From The Series
The main characters of the series are the stars of the popular sitcom from the 2000s called, ‘Step Right Up‘. After 20 years, the channel’s management has decided to restart the series (sound familiar as reboots and prequels seem to keep piling up).
Hannah, (Rachel Bloom) plays the show runner is in charge of the reboot and writes an amazingly inappropriate and racier script that has the original cast excited. All of them come on board. As we meet them, we begin to learn about the lives and careers of the “talent” since they ended their original run.
The “talent” deals with old drama, current drama, and A LOT of baggage. However, seeing all of them reunite and work together has given “Reboot” this feeling of a mix between a documentary, a reality, and a fun fictional show.
This show you will follow a lot of bizarre and funny situations. Just remember, you are watching a show within a show… within a show. Yes, sounds confusing but the cast makes it clear, funny, and fun.
The Highlight Of The Show
This show will get you hooked right away with the initial plot, but that only works due to the cast they brought on to play the characters. It’ll definitely win the viewers’ hearts and will not leave them untouched. It’s amazing and worthy of all the buzz it’s been getting.
The main theme in this series is the revival of the old show ‘Step Right Up‘. Hulu really wants to reboot this project and turn it into a mega-hit. But what was the old series about?
It’s a story about Reed Sterling (Keegan-Michael Key) and Bree Marie Jensen (Judy Greer) who played husband and wife. They live with their grown dim-witted son – Zack (Calum Worthy), and, moreover, with Bree’s horrible first husband Clay (Johnny Knoxville).
But in today’s world of the TV industry, this show needs a fresh look and a more memorable plot. So the new show runner of the reboot is – Hannah (Bloom) – wants to make it more colorful and sharper.
Hulu’s management doesn’t really believe in young talent, so they have invited the original creator of the series – Gordon (Paul Reiser). And, by the way, Hannah and Gordon have a history and not a good one. There is direct confrontation between the young and the old generation, and it’s very fun to watch.
The Gold Cast Of The TV Show ‘Reboot‘: Who Are They
Meanwhile, the relationship between the actors of the sitcom is not ideal. But this hasn’t stopped them from participating in the reboot of the new series. All of them pretend that they have succeeded in life like you do at a high school reunion but as usual all is not as it seems.
Reed and Bree had an off-screen relationship. Unfortunately, it didn’t end well. Now each of them has their own lives: Bree is in the middle of a divorce and Reed is in a committed relationship.
Zack is all grown up (he was a kid in the original). But he hasn’t really grown up… still acting like that boy from the old show, and that’s his thing. He is accompanied everywhere by his mother, she constantly treats him like a baby.
Finally, Clay Barber who claims he doesn’t really care about his reputation and what people think about him, shows that there is much more below the surface than he wants people to know. He has had problems with drinking and other illegal substances. You will find out more about that as you watch.
Despite all these issues, the revival of the show is a go.
Why You Should Watch This Show
The numerous sharp jokes and absurd situations in this series will keep you entertained. In fact, all of the individual issues and “behind the scenes” on set, will drag you even further into the story. People working in the industry will relate and laugh at some of what they show, while others will learn an exaggerated version of what it is like in the writers room or on set. Either way you can’t go wrong.
After all, it’s always fascinating to watch everything that happens from the outside. It’s like opening a veil and getting some exclusive sneak peeks. This show does not disappoint. Many will find themselves laughing out loud with this enjoyable, light, funny comedy.
