Pre-cooked FRIED EGGS cause outrage after hitting shelves in Spain – with the nation appalled by modern laziness and environmental damage

Spanish supermarket chain Mercadona has begun selling pre-cooked eggs across the country, boiling up heated reactions from Spaniards angry at the laziness and environmental damage on display.

‘Put in the microwave for 45 seconds’, reads the packaging.

An average person in Spain throws away 34 kilos of single-use plastic packaging per year, said Blanca Rubial of environmentalist group Amigos de la Tierra in RTVE.

‘The price is exorbitant and the packaging cannot be less sustainable,’ said a user in Spanish, reacting to the post on Twitter.

The price is the equivalent to a dozen uncooked eggs in Spanish supermarkets, according to The Local.

‘We are going to hell’, wrote Dr Elena Casado on Twitter, who posted a photo of the eggs.

‘¡Pero qué cojones!’ (What the f***!) exclaimed one social media user in Spanish upon seeing the eggs.

‘For the culinary AND ecologically impaired,’ said another.

Spain’s new plastic waste law will ban plastic packaging for fruit and vegetables if they weigh under 1.5kg, but that won’t affect pre-cooked food such as the pre-cooked eggs.

‘I guess the fried egg flavour crisps weren’t quite enough of an abomination,’ said a third user, referring to the crisp variety sold in Spain.

Others compared the food to pre-peeled satsumas sold in Walmart, decrying the modern laziness.
