It was on this day 25 years ago that Reed Hastings and Marc Randolph launched Netflix, a streaming service that has gained popularity over the years; with a few hiccups.
Hastings and Randolph thought of the idea for the DVD rental company, at the time, while carpooling between their homes in Santa Cruz, California.
Before officially venturing into the home-video sales and industry the pair put their idea to the test by sending DVDs via mail to Hasting’s house, when the package arrived unscathed, the idea was turned into a rental business that has grown rapidly over the years.
Netflix experienced a decrease in subscribers at the end of the first quarter this year. Approximately, they had 200,000 fewer viewers in comparison to 2021.
Another announcement was by Netflix before June 2022 stating that the streaming platform had to lay off 450 full-time and contract employees to maintain costs.
The stock price fell by 35% after the announcements were made.
History and stats aside, it’s no lie that Netflix has given us the best series, original films, and book adaptations during its reign. From the most loved Stranger Things, Bridgerton, Money Heist, and many more fan favorites.
The streaming platform launched a video with a voiceover narration of all the content it has brought to our screens in the past 25 years, and a few global trends with fans were added to the mix.

In addition to the nostalgic one-minute video, Netflix also released a list of 25 fun facts in celebration of their anniversary on their ‘Tudum’ website that covers news, exclusive content, and behind-the-scenes videos.
It’s pretty clear that Netflix won’t be going away anytime soon as the streaming platform hopes to be around for another 25 years, serving viewers with more jaw-dropping content that will be accessed via Internet Browsers and on numerous devices as it now.
