Players Celebrate as Jagex Finally Extends RuneScape’s Logout Timer

As of today, Jagex has finally launched the extended timer for RuneScape. For years, players have had to deal with a short five-minute logout timer. This was very inconvenient not only for real-world situations where you would lobby before your short return but also because there are many in-game activities that you do not actively participate in that result in you logging out of the game.

Jagex Doubles RuneScape Logout Timer

Before players get too excited about this update, there is a small caveat in which one must have a Jagex Account to benefit from the extended timer. Jagex Accounts have had mixed reviews, and a large portion of that is people who want to play multiple accounts simultaneously – such as playing RuneScape and Old School RuneScape. This is not currently an option with Jagex Accounts.

If you do not already have a Jagex account, you can sign up for one here. It’s a pretty painless process.

If you do, however, have a Jagex Account, you can enjoy your logout timer extension. Initially, players would log out automatically at five minutes of inactivity. Now, the logout timer has been extended to ten minutes, which is a substantial quality-of-life improvement. Some members hoped the logout timer would be extended to match Old School RuneScape’s 25-minute logout timer. However, the games are very different, with RuneScape having far more AFK methods of training as opposed to Old School RuneScape, which requires more consistent interaction.

Regardless, the extended logout timer has come at a great time for players as RuneScape will be holding its next Double XP LIVE event this coming weekend. With players wanting to gain XP as efficiently and quickly as possible, not having to navigate around such a short logout timer is welcome.
