Call of Duty Season 5 for Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone launches on August 2, and Activision has released a blog to showcase the new weapons and some of the cosmetics players can expect in the battle pass. Season 5 will introduce tactical pets and battle buddies as new companions. There are also a few more details revealed on the recently announced hip hop celebration bundles, featuring Nicki Minaj, 21 Savage, and the return of the Doggfather.
Call of Duty’s premium BlackCell pass returns in Season 5, giving players the option to earn even more skins and rewards. At $30, BlackCell includes access to the full Season 5 pass, 20 tier skips, several cosmetics, and a new BlackCell operator named Arthur, who is paired with a dog companion named Merlin. Of course, the standard pass can be purchased for 1,000 CoD Points ($10).
Merlin isn’t the only pet companion coming to Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone. Season 5 is adding other tactical pets, and Activision confirms these companions cannot be harmed in any way and play a role in finishing moves for operators.
Another new addition for Season 5 is the introduction of Battle Buddies gun screens, who are described as virtual assistants who act as a mini-announcers with some additional personality. Gwen is the first Battle Buddy being introduced, and she is bundled with Arthur and Merlin in the BlackCell pass. Gwen will call out killstreak activations, kills, and other in-game personal events, especially when a player wins or performs well in a match.
Two weapons are unlocked through the free tiers of the pass. The Carrack .300 sniper rifle is described as a semi-auto bullpup sniper rifle with an exceptionally high fire rate, and it can be unlocked in Sector E7 of the battle pass map. The FR Avancer assault rifle is described as a mid-range bullpup rifle that features a rapid-fire rate and has strong vertical recoil. This new assault rifle is unlocked in Sector E8.
For Season 5 operators, Phillip Graves and Oz are two operators who are unlocked instantly with purchase of the battle pass. Velikan from Modern Warfare 2019 returns in the premium battle pass tiers, as well as the new operator Mila, and variant “Bishop” skins for existing operators Alex, Roze, and Ghost.
The pass is filled with various cosmetics, including weapon blueprints and vehicle skins. Players who reach tier 100 of the pass will also unlock the Knight 5 emblem and earn 300 CoD Points.
A new season also means more shop bundles. As previously announced, Call of Duty’s hip hop celebration will feature cosmetic bundles for Snoop Dogg, Nicki Minaj and 21 Savage. Snoop and Nicki Minaj will arrive at launch, while 21 Savage will arrive sometime during mid-season and his bundle will be revealed at a later time.
Ghost has the Pro Pack: Gunslinger Ghost Bundle, which will be available for $19.99 (or a regional equivalent) and not available to purchase with CoD Points. This pack includes the “The Marshal” operator skin, which has Ghost dressed for the Wild West. It also has two weapon blueprints, a vehicle skin, sticker, weapon charm, emblem, and it comes with 2,400 CoD Points.
Valeria has the Iceflow bundle with the “Dead Winter” operator skin, two weapon blueprints, a vehicle skin, and more.
