In 1976, legendary filmmaker John Carpenter released what would become one of his best directorial efforts, Assault on Precinct 13. The tight, 90-minute action thriller followed a group of cops and citizens holed up in a police station, battling a wave of members of a local street gang. 50 years later, the film’s influence in the genre continues to this day, with Paramount acquiring an exciting new twist on the tried and true concept.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Paramount’s low-budget genre label, Paramount Primal, has acquired the screenplay for Tower Defense from screenwriter Evan Daugherty (Snow White and the Huntsman and Divergent). It’s described as a “Medieval and supernatural fantasy twist” on Carpenter’s Assault on Precinct 13, while further plot details remain unconfirmed.
