After taking a break from the music industry, Paramore is back! The band, led by pop-punk vocalist Hayley Williams, has announced a brand new single and album. The trio’s last album, After Laughter, came in 2017 with their first tour since 2018 coming later this year.
The band first made its debut, All We Know Is Falling, in 2005. While it did not succeed commercially, the band began to receive recognition and praise for its music production, performances, and vocals.
Fast forward to earlier this month, the band began to update their individual profile photos on social media and deleted their Instagram posts, only leaving posts about their tour online. A snippet of their new single was later posted on their Discord channel and on TikTok. The snippet came with the announcement of the song title – “This Is Why”. Its full release just came out today!
Check it out below:
Taking a listen to the single quickly shows a new direction for the band with funk and early rock n roll sound present throughout. However, the band is excited to tour with another well-known pop-punk band – My Chemical Romance. About the tour, Hayley told The Los Angeles Times: “We did not think there was going to be the kind of demand there is. We’re careful about how we engage with nostalgia; five years ago we would have said ‘absolutely not’ to this. But I think it’s significant that we feel confident enough to maintain the journey that we’ve been on and celebrate with these fans.”
However, the storytelling ability of Paramore is still as present as ever. The single starts with, “If you have an opinion, maybe you should shove it. Maybe you could scream it, might be best to keep it to yourself.” Even though the band has found success with five albums and multiple awards, the band has gone through changes in its members and personal struggles, including Hayley Williams’s divorce.
Therefore, we can only hope the band continues to share more in their music. While not much is known about the album, if the new single proves anything, is that Paramore is adapting to the new times. Hayley told Rolling Stone back in January that the single and album would not be a “comeback ’emo’ record.” She said: “I’m always waiting for the moment for us to know we’re onto something new and we’re not just rehashing the same things. It’s not about it feeling like a hit so much as it’s a scary, exciting feeling that you’re treading uncharted waters. It keeps you curious. We got to feel that feeling early on this time.”
With a mix of nostalgia and new, it’s time for Paramore to be back and we can’t be more excited!
