Octopath Traveler II has finally arrived on Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. Square Enix and Acquire’s highly anticipated sequel to 2018’s Octopath Traveler (as well as the 2020 mobile prequel Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent) officially launched on February 24, 2023. In the day following its release, the latest entry in the Octopath Traveler series has also received a Metacritic Score from both critics and users. Octopath Traveler II Metacritic Score Revealed
As of this writing, Octopath Traveler II has received Metascores on its Nintendo Switch and PS5 platforms. For its Nintendo Switch version, the sequel JRPG earned an 84 Metacritic score, while on PS5, the game netted an 86. Octopath Traveler II does not currently have a PC or PS4 Metascore. Although Square Enix and Acquire’s newest game does not rate in Metacritic’s all-time top 100 Nintendo Switch titles (it currently holds the 173rd position to be exact), on PS5, the game is ranked 30th in the console’s history, making it one of the most acclaimed JRPGs available on the platform. For early user scores, Octopath Traveler II received a 9.0 from its buyers on Nintendo Switch, which was the only platform that received an audience score as of this writing.
Octopath Traveler vs. Octopath Traveler II
It appears that Octopath Traveler II has surpassed the first entry in the series in terms of critical reception, as the first Octopath Traveler game garnered an 83 Metascore on Nintendo Switch and an 80 on PC. To this day, the game’s Xbox One version remains without a Metacritic rating and the 2018 title was not released on PlayStation consoles.
