- This new deal between SAG-AFTRA and the AMPTP allows for smoother production and release schedules for upcoming DC Universe movies.
As the SAG-AFTRA strike is officially ending, Superman: Legacy and Batman: The Brave and The Bold get major DC Universe updates in a new report. Hollywood had a big shake-up this year as the Writers Guild of America and SAG-AFTRA guilds went on strike to fight for better deals, which has involved numerous delays for massive movies and TV shows. That also includes James Gunn’s DC Universe, which will be replacing the old DCEU after the release of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.
Following the news that SAG-AFTRA and the AMPTP have landed a new deal, Deadline reports that Superman: Legacy will be starting principal photography in March 2024 and still meet its July 2025 release date. However, in the case of the Batman: The Brave and The Bold movie, the film is still in the early stages while Andy Muschietti is currently working on Welcome to Derry, the upcoming It prequel show for Max. At the time of this story’s publication, Warner Bros. Discovery and DC Studios have not shared any comments on the Superman: Legacy and Batman: The Brave and The Bold updates.
What DCU Announcements Could Happen Now The Strike Is Over
The bigger question that remains now is whether or not big DC Universe announcements could be on their way, thanks to the SAG-AFTRA strike’s conclusion. In the case of the first DC Universe movie, the cast for Superman: Legacy still needs to be completed. Jimmy Olsen is one of the remaining confirmed characters that Gunn has yet to reveal a casting announcement for, and at this point, it wouldn’t be shocking if he gets unveiled relatively soon.
While it has yet to be confirmed or debunked, Lex Luthor is rumored to be in Superman: Legacy.
With Batman: The Brave and The Bold, even though it has its director, no screenplay is in place, although that may now start getting worked on as writers are able to sign onboard for new projects. While a script is worked on, there is also the question of who will actually be the new Dark Knight in Gunn’s DC Universe. It won’t be a surprise if the new Batman shows up in the DC Universe prior to his solo movie, as they could still cast Bruce Wayne and set up him in an upcoming film or TV show.
Even though it has been a long summer and fall in light of the strikes, it’s great that the DC Universe will be able to move forward now that the writers and actors are getting fair deals with the studios. With so many projects already announced for Chapter 1, “Gods and Monsters,” there will likely be a lot of updates coming in over the next couple of weeks. For now, time will tell how soon it will be until Superman: Legacy and Batman: The Brave and The Bold announcements start arriving.
