Netflix’s The Gray Man gets sequel with Ryan Gosling attached, streamer also announces spinoff

Following the success of The Gray Man’s limited release in theaters and debut on Netflix, Joe and Anthony Russo and co-writer Stephen McFeely who has done Avengers: Endgame and Captain America: Civil War, are all set to return for the sequel. The Russo’s will produce alongside AGBO’s Mike Larocca, as well as Roth Kirschenbaum Films’ Joe Roth and Jeffrey Kirschenbaum. AGBO is a production company founded by the Russo Brothers. In addition to the sequel Netflix and AGBO also announced they are also developing a spinoff film that is “set to explore a different element of The Gray Man universe.” This untitled spinoff will be scribed by Deadpool writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese who have done Deadpool and Zombieland). “The audience reaction to The Gray Man has been nothing short of phenomenal,” Joe and Anthony Russo have stated. “We are so appreciative of the enthusiasm that fans across the world have had for this film. With so many amazing characters in the movie, we had always intended for the Gray Man to be part of an expanded universe, and we are thrilled that Netflix is announcing a sequel with Ryan, as well as a second script that we’re excited to talk about soon.” Even before the sequel and spinoff were confirmed and announced, the Russos stated that their adaptation of Mark Greaney’s best-selling novel was made with aspirations of exploring the larger world around it. We can’t wait to see where their brilliant minds takes us next.

The books which are written by Mark Greaney, was first published in 2009 by Jove Books and are 12 books in total. The novel and the movie follows Gentry (Ryan Gosling) on a mission across Europe to rescue his handler, Sir Donald Fitzroy (Billy Bob Thornton), and his family in Normandy, France, from Lloyd (Chris Evans), a member of a gigantic French corporation and former CIA officer who wants Gentry terminated in order to shepherd a billion-dollar deal for oil interests in Nigeria, where its president, in turn, wants Gentry dead for the assassination of his brother. There is plenty for the Russo’s and Netflix to expand on in this universe.
