Thats the end of the round for “Cobra Kai“.
Get ready to say goodbye Karate Kid fans, for real this time, because the story that began almost 40 years ago, back in 1984 is coming to an end, as the beloved Netflix series and sequel to the Karate Kid franchise Cobra Kai is ending with its upcoming season 6. Which promises to be The BIGGEST and The BADDEST.
Updated for a new generation, Cobra Kai continues the original Karate Kid story decades after the tournament that c
hanged their lives, the rivalry between Johnny and Daniel reignites in this sequel to the “Karate Kid” films. “Cobra Kai” takes place over 30 years after the events of the 1984 All Valley Karate Tournament with the continuation of the inescapable conflict between Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka).
Cobra Kai is written and executive produced by Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg via their production company, Counterbalance Entertainment. Will Smith, James Lassiter and Caleeb Pinkett executive produce for Westbrook Entertainment along with Susan Ekins in association with Sony Pictures Television. Ralph Macchio and William Zabka also serve as executive producers. This Emmy nominated series quickly became a fan favourite.
In an open letter to fans, creators Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg wrote, “Reacquainting the world with ‘The Karate Kid’ universe has been our humble honor. Making Cobra Kai has allowed us to join the same hallowed dojo once inhabited by the great Robert Mark Kamen, John Avildsen, Jerry Weintraub, and all the amazing original cast members. It has also enabled us to play sensei, expanding the original storylines and birthing a new generation of underdogs. We’ve never once taken this opportunity for granted.”
They then talk about why they decided to end the show show now, simply why drag it on, when it’s at its peak. “Our day one goal with Cobra Kai has always been to end it on our own terms, leaving the Valley in the time and place we’ve always imagined. So it is with immense pride and thankfulness that we are able to
announce that achievement,” A smart decision on behalf of the showrunners.
They go on to acknowledge the fandom by saying “While this may be a bittersweet day for the fandom, the Miyagiverse has never been stronger. This fandom is the BEST on the planet and we hope to be telling more Karate Kid stories with you down the line. Because as we all know, Cobra Kai Never Dies.”
When last we left Daniel Larusso (Ralph Macchio) and Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) in “Cobra Kai” Season 5, their dojos Miyagi Do and Eagle Fang had both earned a spot in the international karate tournament known as Sekai Taikai that Terry Silver (Thomas Ian Griffith) had been fighting his way towards all these years. Meanwhile John Kreese (Martin Kove), Johnny’s ex sensei had escaped from prison by faking his death, and Silver was arrested for beating Stingray to death in the previous season. With one final battle ahead, the question remains, can Daniel and Johnny lead the Miyagi-Do and Eagle Fang students to victory?
Netflix released a teaser that highlights the past 5 seasons and is full of nostalgia, as “Cobra Kai” always is and teasing the new and final season.
The series also stars Xolo Maridueña, Courtney Henggeler, Tanner Buchanan, Mary Mouser, Jacob Bertrand, Peyton List, Vanessa Rubio, Dallas Dupree Young, Alicia Hannah-Kim, and Gianni DeCenzo. As well as the return of familiar faces including Yuji Okumoto, Elisabeth Shue, Sean Kanan, Robyn Lively, and Tamlyn Tomita and others.
All five seasons of Cobra Kai are streaming now on Netflix.
