One of the hottest comics on the planet right now, Rife’s new hour was filmed at DAR Constitution Hall in Washington, D.C. In it, he promises to leave no topic untouched – from crystals to social media trolls – and no audience member spared. Rife exec produced alongside longtime manager Christina Shams, with Erik Griffin directing. Irony Point was the production company.
While Rife has seen his career hit the stratosphere just recently, after amassing a huge, unexpected following on TikTok and other platforms, he has in truth been honing his craft for more than a decade. The 27-year-old native of North Lewisburg, Ohio self-financed and released his first two specials, Only Fans and Matthew Steven Rife, on YouTube, more recently taking to the platform with the crowd work-focused Walking Red Flag. Among his other most pivotal projects to date is Lowkey Outside, a series of socially distanced comedy shows put on during the pandemic. Co-hosted with longtime friend Paul Elia, the Lowkey shows kept people laughing at a time when traditional comedy venues were inaccessible, offering a platform to other comics starved for stage time and financial opportunity.
While as recently as last summer, Rife struggled to sell a hundred tickets a show, he moved over 600,000 tickets over the span of just 48 hours when he announced his ProbleMATTic World Tour with Live Nation earlier this year. The comic’s new special debuts exclusively on Netflix November 15th. Check the trailer out above.
