“Man, the ending of Marty Supreme genuinely shits on the entire rest of the movie by how bad it is. Marty constantly ruins the lives of like five people in that movie. And even when he has to choose between having his shot at glory or sticking by his girl and kid, he chooses wrong. I love it when he wins the tournament, but when he gets back, he’s supposed to confront the consequences of his choices, not be rewarded for constantly being a fuck head. He literally abandoned his family, but we’re supposed to be glad he wants to be a dad now???? Uncut Gems did it right. Howard wins his game, but loses everything in the process.”

Plot summary: Following table tennis player Marty Mauser (played by Timothée Chalamet) on his quest to win the world championship. Throughout the film, he abandons his responsibilities and damages several of his relationships, all in pursuit of becoming the greatest table tennis player.
How it ended: Marty finds out Rachel Mizler (played by Odessa A’zion), the married woman he’s having an affair with, is pregnant with his baby, but leaves for Japan to try and compete in the World Championship anyway. After finding out he’s too late to enter, Marty is forced to lose the exhibition match that was set up by Milton Rockwell (played by Kevin O’Leary), but refuses to follow through. Instead, in front of the audience, he demands a rematch, which he wins, and flies back home. After going home and arriving at the hospital, Rachel gave birth to their child while he was away, and he held his newborn child in his arms.
