Milly Alcock Confirmed To Return as Supergirl in 'Man of Tomorrow'

With the DCU in full swing, 2026 is looking to be a big year for the franchise. Supergirl, Lanterns, and Clayface are all three distinct projects that will expand unique corners of the shared universe and push the boundaries of what a superhero movie can be. This will set the stage for Man of Tomorrow in 2027, the highly anticipated follow-up to the blockbuster hit Superman. The upcoming film is set to feature a variety of characters from across the DC pantheon, and now it will add one more to the roster.

Milly Alcock is confirmed to return as Kara Zor-El / Supergirl in Man of Tomorrow, according to Variety. The publication notes Alcock will begin filming in Atlanta soon. While Warner Bros. has not officially commented on Alcock’s return, DC Studios co-president Peter Safran stated that Supergirl is “a major part of what we’re doing.”

Alcock made her DCU debut in Superman in a small cameo at the end of the film. She is now headlining Supergirl, the second feature in the DCU and one of Warner Bros.’ big summer movies. Supergirl was directed by Craig Gillespie based on a script from Ana Nogueira. The upcoming film is heavily inspired by Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, a 12-issue miniseries by writer Tom King and artist Bilquis Evely that ran from 2021 to 2022.

With each passing day, Man of Tomorrow seems to be more of a Justice League-esque film than a standard Superman sequel. In addition to Alcock’s Supergirl, Aaron Pierre is set to reprise his role as John Stewart after his debut in Lanterns, while Edi Gathegi, Isabela Merced, and Nathan Fillion return as Mister Terrific, Hawkgirl, and Guy Gardner, respectively. Oh, and of course, there is David Corenswet as Superman and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, who will put their differences aside to face an existential threat to the planet.

That is a lot of firepower to go up against the film’s main villain, Brainiac, played by Lars Eidinger. Superman actor María Gabriela de Faría is also back as The Engineer, but she is not the only sub-antagonist entering the fray. Adria Arjona is officially set as alien queen Maxima, while Jason Momoa is also rumored to return as Lobo after his debut in Supergirl this summer.

On the surface, Man of Tomorrow sounds like another Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice situation. What should be a Superman-centric sequel now includes numerous DC characters in what feels like a game of catch-up with the MCU. Yet one factor working in Man of Tomorrow‘s favor is that it is the seventh entry in the new universe, whereas Batman v. Superman was the second DCEU film. Most of the characters featured in the upcoming film will have already appeared in their own projects. At this point, it seems James Gunn was right when he said Man of Tomorrow was not “a Superman sequel,” instead leaning closer to a team-up event that unites different corners of the DCU.
