Metaphor: ReFantazio Gets New Trailer And Release Window At The Game Awards

Atlus has shared a closer look at its upcoming action-RPG Metaphor: ReFantazio in a new trailer titled “The Royal Tournament.” The studio revealed the trailer as a part of 2023’s Game Awards, as well as narrowed the title’s release window. Metaphor: ReFantazio is now scheduled to release Fall 2024 on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

Similarly to many of Atlus’ other RPGs, it appears that the studio will tackle power dynamics and corruption in Metaphor: ReFantazio, albeit with a more high-fantasy setting. Based on the trailer, it seems as though the game will follow its protagonist as they compete in a tournament to establish who will reign as king over a country in desperate need of new leadership. It then showcases lush environments, sprawling cities, both action and turn-based combat, what appears to be a small handful of mini-games (cooking, anyone?), and stunning art direction that is sure to be familiar yet exciting for Persona and Shin Megami Tensei fans.

Atlus studio legends Katsura Hashino, Shigenori Soejima, and Shoji Meguro are all attached to the upcoming title, as well as Nier: Automata’s Koda Kazuma and Neon Genesis Evangelion’s Ikuto Yamashita. The trailer ended with the announcement that Metaphor: ReFantazio will release on all consoles Fall 2024.

Of course Metaphor: ReFantazio’s new trailer wasn’t the only big reveal at The Game Awards. We’ve rounded up a list of the night’s biggest announcements, as well as every Game Award winner.
