The wives and girlfriends of Argentina’s victorious footballers rushed onto the Qatari pitch on Sunday night to congratulate their World Cup heroes.
But in the French camp, the mood was very different, with the dejected French player leaving the field as soon as they could, leaving their partners to pick up the pieces of their broken dreams of winning back-to-back trophies.
Argentina emerged from Doha having won the FIFA World Cup trophy in a spectacular game of football that saw them expertly beat France 4-2 on penalties.
Twice France came from behind, with superstar Kylian Mbappe scoring a hattrick to end the match in a 3-3 draw. But it was only penalty heartbreak to come.

Minutes later, just as star player Lionel Messi kissed the coveted golden trophy, he also landed a smooch from his his most loyal fan, wife Antonela Roccuzzo.
Having rushed onto the field, the Argentine WAGS were seen taking selfies, cheering and re-uniting with their partners on the pitch to share the moment of glory.
Roccuzzo herself was seen grasping the coveted trophy with both hands, kissing it with her eyes closed, as the realisation of her husband achieving his life-long dream sunk in.
Shortly afterwards, the mother-of-three took to social media to celebrate her husband’s achievement.

Posting a series of heartwarming photos of her sons Mateo, Thiago and Circo also celebrating the win on Instagram, Antonela wrote: ‘I don’t even know how to start… what a great pride we feel for you Lionel Messi.
‘Thank you for teaching us to never give up, that we have to fight until the end. IT WAS FINALLY DONE, YOU ARE A WORLD CHAMPION, we know what you suffered for so many years, what you wanted to achieve this!!!’
Argentina’s Angel Di Maria, who like Messi fell at the final hurdle in 2014 against Germany, shared a passionate kiss with his wife Jorgelina Cardoso after the 2022 trophy ceremony.
His wife rushed onto the pitch following the win and posed for a series of pictures with their daughters Mia and Pia.

After posing in the goal, the couple’s eldest daughter was pictured kissing the World Cup trophy too.
In a gushing Instagram post, Jorgelina wrote: ‘YOU ABSOLUTELY DESERVE ALL THIS HAPPINESS… Thank you for being Argentine, thank you for giving us those important goals in the finals, thank you for having listened to me when everyone wanted you to resign. I LOVE YOU TO WHERE NO ONE GOES! Congratulations WORLD CHAMPION!!!!!!’
Meanwhile, Guido Rodriguez and his wife shared an emotional moment on the pitch following the end result.
The couple were pictured in a loving embrace before Guido then gave Guadalupe his World Cup medal to wear.

As well as bringing their daughter out onto the pitch, Guadalupe then shared a series of images of her cradling the World Cup trophy.
‘My country is WORLD CHAMPION,’ she gushed on Instagram. ‘My husband is WORLD CHAMPION.’
That said, it was a crushing defeat for the French side as President Emmanuel Macron was seen comforting his wife Brigitte Macron from the stands.
French goalkeeper Alphonse Areola’s wife Marrion rushed to support her partner on Instagram following the disappointing defeat.
Addressing the ‘very dear French team’, she wrote: ‘The disappointment at the moment is necessarily great .. but beyond that … what pride, what emotion, what emotional lift during this final which will remain forever engraved as one of the most beautiful final that you have proposed to the whole world. Just for that … Thank you blues!’
