DJ, publicist and fashion designer Maria McCloy will be remembered by industry colleagues and friends and family at a public memorial on May 20 at the Johannesburg Theatre.
A statement shared that a memorial would be held from 11.00am to 2.00pm. The dress code for the memorial is Styled by Maria. McCloy was known for her dynamic style that included bold prints, her signature red lipstick and her Air Max sneakers.
McCloy passed away on May 12, at Milpark Hospital in Johannesburg following heart failure. The family confirmed her death in a statement on, May 13.
“Maria – a vibrant and creative soul who embraced life wholeheartedly as a DJ, publicist and fashion designer – was loved by her family, friends, colleagues and community at large. Her kindness, warmth, generosity and unwavering love for those around her touched many lives and will never be forgotten,” read the statement.
It continued: “She had a special way of bringing people together and her presence brought comfort, laughter and love to all who knew her. She leaves behind her mother and two beloved sisters, Thandiwe and Natasha, along with countless family members and friends who are devastated by this loss.”
The family has requested privacy as they mourn her passing and thanked the public for the messages of support and condolences received.
