Meghan Markle reportedly sent Thomas Markle Sr. a letter in 2025, informing her estranged father that she was aware of the accusations made against him.
Multiple outlets, including Hello! and The Sun, reported on Saturday, October 24, that Meghan, 45, wrote Thomas, 82, a note last year while he was hospitalized. Per the reports, Meghan allegedly told her father that she would no longer contact him and that her children — Prince Archie, 7, and Princess Lilibet, 5, whom she shares with husband Prince Harry — would never meet their grandfather due to the accusations.
According to The Sun, Meghan had hospital staff deliver the letter to Thomas’ bedside where he was allegedly required to sign a form confirming receipt.
Meghan and her father have been estranged since 2018.
“In 2018, a letter was sent to the Metropolitan Police and Royalty and Specialist Protection. That letter was subsequently shared with me. It made troubling and disturbing allegations against my father and I was given assurances that these were being investigated,” the Duchess of Sussex told Us in a Friday, October 23, statement. “I hope it can now be understood that, despite certain media publications’ distortion over the years, any distance from my father and my choice to not allow him to have contact with our children, was for one reason: to protect them. I trusted that the authorities were doing the same for other families.”
Hours earlier, Meghan’s half-brother, Thomas Markle Jr., claimed to The Sun that he allegedly discovered child sex abuse material (CSAM) at Thomas Sr.’s home in the Philippines and turned it into authorities. (Thomas Sr. vehemently denied the accusations, calling the claims “sick lies.”)
“I am deeply distressed at the news that has come to light in the last 24 hours, and my thoughts are with any children who may have been harmed,” Meghan added in her statement. “Although the breadth of what has now been uncovered is more sickening than one could ever imagine, my sincerest hope is that justice will be fully served and that the priority remains the safety and protection of innocent children.”
The Sun later reported that the 2018 letter also accused Thomas Sr. of allegedly sexually assaulting a child. He has since publicly refuted the allegations.
“I have never had sex with anyone under the age of 18,” Thomas Sr. told the Daily Mail on Saturday, vowing to “do whatever it takes” to clear his name.
He also denied ever receiving a letter from Meghan about the accusations, telling the outlet, “[Meghan] never said a word to me about this letter accusing me of such terrible things. If Meghan or anyone else had come to me in 2018 and told me about the letter, I would have had a chance to defend myself.”
