Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are many things: the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, ex-senior royals, and Montecito residents. And now they can add ping-pong competitors to that list. In an ad for the 2023 Invictus Games, the Sussexes appear for a very dramatic face-off at a ping-pong table.
One could argue that this is Markle’s return to acting—either that, or that she really is that competitive IRL. Given her recent interview with Variety, in which she decisively said she was “done” with acting, we’ll assume the latter. Relatable as always, Meghan!
The Invictus Games is an international, multi-sport event for wounded, injured, or sick service men and women, for both those currently serving and for veterans. The first Invictus Games were held in 2014 in the United Kingdom.
Before Meghan shows up in the ad, Prince Harry is seen with competitors in the Invictus Games. “Are you ready? The incredible experience that is the #InvictusGames is coming ever closer. Prince Harry founded the event in 2014. As of 2022, there have been five Invictus Games, in 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2020. In September 2023, the sixth Invictus Games will be held in Düsseldorf, Germany. The 2025 games will be held in Canada.
“The Invictus Games Düsseldorf 2023 will bring together over 500 competitors from 20 nations to compete in a series of adaptive sports,” says the event website. “Events will be held in and around the Arena Sportspark over the course of a week, with further details to be announced.”
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been laying quite low lately, but the highly-anticipated Netflix documentary about their life is expected to come out in December. The Sussexes finalized a multiyear deal with Netflix in 2020 for content focused on documentary projects, feature films, television series, and children’s shows, per The New York Times. Since, cameras have been spotted following them around, meaning that the doc will most likely focus on their lives over the past two years, post–royal family exit.
