Marvel’s Phase 5, And Kang, Have Arrived – Deadline

Marvel Studios has dropped its trailer for Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, the third installment in the Ant-Man series and the pic that is set to launch Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Returning Paul Rudd as Ant-Man and featuring Jonathan Majors as the latest baddie Kang the Conquerer, the pic hits theaters February 17, 2023.

The new pic finds Rudd’s Scott Lang/Ant-Man and Evangeline Lilly’s Hope Van Dyne/Wasp together with the family (Michael Douglas’ Hank Pym, Michelle Pfeiffer’s Janet Van Dyne and Scott’s daughter Maggie played by Kathryn Newton) as they inadvertently open access to the Quantum Realm.

Set to the strains of Elton John’s “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road,” the trailer reveals the realm and those that are within, including Major’s anticipated Kang. The time-traveling Kang is a vital part of the MCU’s next phases, and he’s even getting his own pic, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, which will be directed by Destin Daniel Cretton.

Kang’s aggressions are part of the connective tissue that tie many Marvel comic storylines together. The villain does battle in the comics not only with the Avengers, but also with the Fantastic Four, the newest cinematic incarnation of which will open Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2025. Kang has connections to the X-Men, F4 archenemy Dr. Doom and is related to that group’s leader, Reed Richards.

“I can get you home,” the villain is heard saying to Rudd’s Ant-Man in the trailer, “and give you more time if you help me.” Shortly thereafter we get a glimpse of him in his full Kang regalia.

Also glimpsed in the new Ant-Man trailer is Billy Murray.

Peyton Reed returns to direct the third film in the series, which Kevin Feige and Stephen Broussard produced. Combined, Ant-Man and Ant-Man and the Wasp have grossed $1.14 billion, with nearly $397 million of that stateside.

Up next in the Marvel lineup is Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, the sequel to the Oscar-nominated original which also wraps up Phase 4 of the MCU. It is hitting theaters November 11.
