Well, there it is. Sony has released the final trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
Tickets are now on sale, and Marvel isn’t messing around.

The teaser just confirmed the presence of The Hulk AND Daredevil.
Let’s talk about what this means, as well as who is conspicuous by their absence.
A Brand New Day Indeed

On the off chance you haven’t seen it yet, here’s the final trailer:
Now that you have watched it, I will provide the next logical piece of information.

Tickets are now on sale at Fandango…but also Amazon Prime.
Here’s the link to the latter site, which allows you to watch the movie one day earlier.

Obviously, you must be an Amazon Prime member to purchase.
Also, I’ll let you know that the prices seem a bit *ahem* inflated for the special screening.

We bought our tickets for the following day on Fandango and saved 35 percent.
I’m not sponsored on this but really just letting you know that you’ll pay for the early screening.

Then again, you may believe that it’s worth the price, as you won’t get spoiled.
I’m saying this because spoilers are seemingly everywhere for this film.

In fact, Daniel Richtman just went out on a limb to confirm a longstanding rumor:
“I can confirm that Sadie Sink is playing Jean Grey, 100%.”
Photo: BBC
If true, Sink will portray the most famous redhead at Marvel, just as many of us presumed.
Sink doesn’t appear in the new trailer, which I presume is an attempt to hide her identity.

Still, Marvel and Sony clearly decided to go for it with the new trailer.
This clip doesn’t hide the identities of the film’s guest stars.

We get an almost immediate appearance by Mark Ruffalo as Dr. Bruce Banner.
Later, The Hulk appears because…of course he does. Is Ruffalo ever just Bruce Banner?

Also, Jon Bernthal shows up as The Punisher, although he only briefly appears.
So, the stars are out in force in this clip. And the strategy has clearly worked.
Is Ned Okay?

Early ticket sales are exemplary for the new film, although it’s not expected to match its predecessor.
That was always a tall ask, given that Spider-Man: No Way Home is the eighth biggest film ever.

Nobody is expecting Brand New Day to earn $1.9 billion this summer.
Even $1.5 billion would be extraordinary, and that’s currently my over/under.
Source: Marvel Studios
Only 15 films ever have done that, so it’s a big ask, even for a Spidey film with a great trailer.
Speaking of which, the 150-second clip offers some interesting ideas.

Ned appears to be obsessed with The Spider-Man, which is a nice touch.
After all, Ned has just lost his best friend, but doesn’t even remember that.

So, this void has taken the form of an obsession with the mysterious vigilante superhero.
Sony and Marvel have leaned into the premise, too. Have you seen this?

Here’s Founder and CEO Ned Leeds explaining the purpose of the Spidey Tracker:
A message from Founder & CEO, Ned Leeds.
Follow Spider-Man’s whereabouts with the official Spidey Tracker: https://t.co/IfjSo8dTIb pic.twitter.com/60V6vnepkI

Ned is clearly going through some stuff, but his heart seems to be in the right place here.
Unlike J. Jonah Jameson, Ned sees Spider-Man for the champion of the people he or she is.

I think it’s interesting that Ned lists Punisher as an enemy of Spider-Man, though.
Also, you should play with the Spidey Tracker. It offers a charming musical surprise.

Still, the focus of the film isn’t just on Peter Parker being separated from Ned and MJ.
Our hero clearly needs some advice, but nobody knows who he is.

So, Parker turns to the most out-in-the-open of MCU characters, Bruce Banner.
As a professor, Banner is willing to speak about his…physical issues. You know, the gamma-related ones.

This brings me to the plot of Brand New Day, which focuses on Spider-Man changing.
An old comic book trope involves the superhero facing a physiological evolution.
Source: Marvel Studios
In this case, Spider-Man is trying to learn how to control his powers, which makes sense.
The last time we saw him, he’d spoken with two other Peter Parkers.
Source: Marvel Studios
So, he learned how their powers worked and, as a scientist, he wants to weaponize that knowledge.
Picking the brain of Dr. Bruce Banner makes a lot of sense. It just doesn’t work.

The other hook of this film is that Parker winds up in a fight with The Hulk.
This trailer emphasizes the point and ends with 20 seconds of great action.
Photo: Marvel Studios
You can freeze-frame the shot to see that it’s The Hulk plummeting with the collapsed building.
The intent here is clear. Comic books love to pit superheroes in mortal combat.

Avengers: Secret Wars will likely do just that, and Avengers: Doomsday may have some, too.
Brand New Day is hyping its hot Spider-Man on Hulk (and Punisher?) action.
Photo: Marvel
For that reason alone, fans will rush to the theaters on opening weekend.
I mean, it’s the same premise that drove Thor: Ragnarok to blockbuster status.
Photo: Marvel Studios
Not coincidentally, that film is the most successful of all Thor releases to date.
So, I believe that Sony is onto something here. It’s a truly excellent trailer.
