The biggest question facing Marvel is not what superheroes will join the Avengers or whether or not the Guardians of the Galaxy will return, it is what the future of Jonathan Majors looks like.
Majors has portrayed Kang the Conqueror in both Loki and Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, with the expectation that the villain would permeate the next two phases of MCU films.
Majors’ Legal Troubles
Things changed, however, when Majors was arrested in March on domestic violence charges after an incident in New York.
Majors is facing three counts of third-degree assault, second-degree aggravated harassment, three counts of third-degree attempted assault, and second-degree harassment. Police cite that Majors allegedly struck “[the victim] about the face with an open hand, causing substantial pain and a laceration behind her ear.” Additionally, he allegedly grabbed her hand and neck, “causing bruising and substantial pain.”
Subsequently, more victims have come forward accusing the actor of misconduct.
What Will Marvel Do?
While Marvel has largely remained silent as the actor’s legal proceedings have played out, all eyes are on the studio.
What we do know is that Major will portray Kang again at least one more time. The second season of Loki has already been shot and is expected to be released later this year.
After that, Majors’s future with Marvel remains closed. Insiders report that while no decision has been made, the studio “has already started preparations” on recasting the role of Kang should they need to.
