Martin Scorsese Embraces AI? The Legendary Director Named as Advisor to Black Forest Labs

Yes, you read that right. Martin Scorsese, THAT Martin Scorsese, the legendary director of Goodfellas and Taxi Driver, to name a very few, is officially on board with AI. Or, at least, he’s officially on the board of advisors for one specific AI company called Black Forest Labs.

Don’t believe us? Well, there’s visual proof: the company has released a video of its team members demonstrating their AI visual intelligence product, with the director beginning to come around to its possibilities.

We’ll leave it to you to decide how you feel about this news now, and as you ruminate on it over the rest of your day, week, life perhaps. But, for now, if you’re curious about what Scorsese has to say, here’s everything you need to know.

Martin Scorsese x Black Forest Labs

In an announcement that will likely further divide, or at least stir up, major feelings and sentiments on both sides of the pro- or anti-AI in filmmaking camps, Martin Scorsese has officially been revealed to be an advisor to Black Forest Labs.

This comes directly from the company and includes a statement and a full video showing Scorsese chopping it up with company representatives as they demonstrate their production-grade AI image generation and editing model, FLUX.2.

If this sounds unbelievable to you, it’s not. You can watch the whole thing in the video below.

Martin Scorsese On (A) Board for AI

To go along with the video above, Scorsese has a quote attributed to him that further validates his support of AI and could be taken as an endorsement of the company of which he’s an advisor and its generative AI model.

“There’s always been this problem of how do you communicate what you see in your head to your cast and crew. There are some things you have to see and feel. […] Now with this tool, I can share what I’m visualizing more clearly and efficiently to my creative team—the production designer, art designer, and cinematographer—for them to build on to enrich cinematic intelligence.” – Martin Scorsese

As charitably as possible, this endorsement focuses on time-saving measures, streamlining pre-production by using generative AI to speed up storyboarding and share creative visions with the many teams and artists needed for filmmaking.

However, for many in the never-AI camp, this might be a huge betrayal too. For now, though, if you’d like to find out more, you can keep digging on the company’s website here.
