Margot Robbie‘s Barbie is going to the real world, even if it’s against her will.
In the full trailer for Greta Gerwig’s upcoming Barbie movie, released on Thursday, every day seems to be the best day ever in Barbie Land. Until it isn’t. The fantasy world quickly comes to a screeching halt when Robbie’s character interrupts her own party to ask the other Barbies and Kens: “Do you guys ever think about dying?”
Record scratch. From that moment on, Barbie begins to have some inexplicably weird experiences in Barbie Land. Things come to a head when her perfectly pointed feet go flat.
She eventually learns from Kate McKinnon’s Barbie that she’ll need to travel to the real world to “know the truth about the universe.” Or, she can choose to return to her old life. She, as anyone would, chooses to remain in Barbie Land…but that’s actually not an option.
On her way to the real world, she realizes that Ryan Gosling’s Ken is a stowaway. Together, they stir up some trouble in the real world as the CEO of Mattel (Will Ferrell) tries to get them back to Barbie Land.
