When The Meg premiered in 2018, the movie’s titular monster made Jaws‘ shark look like a small nuisance. The massive beast, actually a Megalodon, met its demise by that film’s end. However, the danger isn’t gone. The Meg 2: The Trench trailer shows the world now has multiple Meg problems. These massive sharks look awfully hungry for human blood, too. The body count across this two minute preview is rather impressive. Well, it’s impressive and horrifying.
Many die in the Meg 2: The Trench trailer, but Jason Statham’s character Jonas? He can stop a Meg’s gnashing teeth with his foot!
The synopsis for the sequel is as follows:
Dive into uncharted waters with Jason Statham and global action icon Wu Jing as they lead a daring research team on an exploratory dive into the deepest depths of the ocean. Their voyage spirals into chaos when a malevolent mining operation threatens their mission and forces them into a high-stakes battle for survival. Pitted against colossal Megs and relentless environmental plunderers, our heroes must outrun, outsmart, and outswim their merciless predators in a pulse-pounding race against time.
It’s not only Megs that have appeared from the deep. The trailer shows a number of prehistoric animals wreaking havoc. Luckily we have two talented action stars to save the planet. We can’t wait to see if they manage it.
Meg 2: The Trench swims into theaters on August 4, 2023.
