Marimuthu took on the lead role in Mari Selvaraj’s debut film, Pariyerum Perumal.
Actor Marimuthu, who was in his late 50s, tragically collapsed at a Chennai TV studio and was declared deceased upon arrival at a nearby hospital. He played a significant role in the TV serial Ethirneechal and was dubbing scenes for the series at the time of his passing. He was admitted to the hospital but unfortunately passed away within minutes due to a heart attack. Additionally, he showcased his talent in over 50 films throughout his career.
Besides, Marimuthu took on the lead role in Mari Selvaraj’s debut film, Pariyerum Perumal. Reflecting on the experience of collaborating with him, director Mari Selvaraj stated, “His support for my debut film was tremendous, and he remained in contact with me.”
“This is undoubtedly a significant loss. Marimuthu was the preferred choice of many directors who crafted village tales with straightforward or humble narratives. What stood out was his unwavering support for emerging directors. He never flaunted his seniority and worked collaboratively, fostering a dialogue to enhance the storytelling process,” he said.
Mari Selvaraj expressed his sorrow over Marimuthu’s absence in Maqmannan, and he mentioned their mutual desire to act together in the next film. He added, “I had also contemplated acting alongside him in our next project, but I never imagined it would happen like this. We have lost someone who had a deep love for a better society.”
Marimuthu’s body will be kept at his Saligramam residence until 3 PM, after which they will be transported to Varusanad in the Theni district, his hometown. His passing has deeply saddened both celebrities and his fans.
Marimuthu recently played a supporting role in Rajinikanth’s Jailer, which had a theatrical release in August. Notably, he had worked as an associate director under Vasanth, Seeman, and SJ Suryah before making his directorial debut with the 2008 Tamil film Kannum Kannum. Following that, Marimuthu directed Pulivaal in 2014, with Prasanna in the lead role for both of his directorial ventures. His contribution also extended to acting, with appearances in more than 50 films, including notable roles in Yuddham Sei, Nimirndhu Nil, Marudhu, Bairavaa, Kadaikutty Singam, Veeramae Vaagai Soodum, and many others.
