This week’s release of the full trailer for Disney’s live-action “The Little Mermaid” generated more than 108 million global views in its first 24 hours.
That makes it the biggest trailer debut for a Disney live-action title since “The Lion King” in early 2019 drew 130 million views.
It’s also one of the most watched trailers for any title in Disney’s library of live-action re-imaginings says the studio, beating out “Aladdin” with 106.5 million views along with “Cruella,” “Mulan” and “Maleficent: Mistress of Evil”.
The number of views is inclusive of broadcast TV audience and digital. The trailer itself was released on March 12th during the Academy Award ceremony.
Directed by Rob Marshall, the film will include four new songs original to the remake alongside many of its most iconic numbers including “Part of Your World” and “Under the Sea”.
Halle Bailey, Melissa McCarthy, Javier Bardem, Awkwafina, Jacob Tremblay and Jonah Hauer-King co-star in the film which hopes to join the other late 80s/early 90s Disney titles like “Beauty and the Beast,” “Aladdin” and “The Lion King” that made the jump to live-action and managed to clear $1 billion globally each.
“The Little Mermaid” in its live-action form will hit cinemas in time for the Memorial Day weekend in late May.
