Although production on the film has been shut down due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes, anticipation for Deadpool 3 is through the roof.
Not only will the film see Ryan Reynold’s mouthy anti-hero join the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), but it will also feature the return of Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine.
Deadpool Is Joining The MCU
Although the plot of Deadpool 3 has yet to be revealed, it seems that the film will fit well in the Multiverse saga that the MCU is exploring. In fact, rumors continue to swirl that the Merc with the Mouth will inadvertently cause the events that bring together the multiverse for Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars.
What we do know, is that in addition to Jackman, Deadpool 3 will see the return of Jennifer Garner’s Elektra. It could also potentially see the return of Halle Barry’s Storm.
Now, it turns out, that Jackman may not be the only X-Men character to join the film.
Here Comes Sabretooth
Per industry insider Daniel Richtman, Liev Schreiber will reprise his role as Sabretooth in the upcoming film.
Schreiber originated the role of Sabretooth in X-Men Orgins: Wolverine. While the film was panned by critics and fans alike, Schreiber’s performance was well-received. He was also involved in the film’s best scene.
With Jackman featured heavily in the promotion of Deadpool 3, it would make sense to bring back Logan’s former friend turned bitter enemy. Interestingly, X-Men: Legends Wolverine was also the first time Reynolds played Deadpool.
Deadpool 3 is currently slated to hit theaters on May 3, 2024. If production on the film continues to be shut down, however, the opening could be delayed.
