Lewis Hamilton shared that the F1 production team is currently searching for the perfect co-star to appear opposite Brad Pitt.
Brad Pitt will work alongside seven-time F1 world champion Lewis Hamilton to prepare for his upcoming Formula One film. The project, produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, has yet to announce a title, though motorsport.com reports that scenes for the project will be filmed during weekend races of the upcoming 2023 F1 World Championships, scheduled to take place between March 5 and November 26.
Pitt was joined by Bruckheimer, director Joe Kosinski, and screenwriter Ehren Kruger at last October’s United States Grand Prix to discuss the project with F1 officials.
Hamilton, who lends his voice to a car version of himself in Disney Pixar’s Cars 2, will join the film’s team as a producer and advisor by way of his production company, Dawn Apollo Films.
While details about the upcoming film are skint, it seems that Pitt will portray a veteran F1 racer who is tasked with mentoring an up-and-coming driver.
Lewis Hamilton Shares an Update on the Upcoming F1 Movie
Hamilton shared an update on the film early this week, saying that the production team is currently searching for the perfect co-star to appear opposite Pitt. “We’re going through a process right now of selecting the character that will be alongside Brad, which is exciting,” Hamilton explained.
“Basically that’s the process of watching [the auditions]. We have recordings of them doing certain scenes, and we got through it.
I’ve sat in the office with Jerry and Joe and Brad, and we’ve been watching them and kind of given our inputs and what we think.” Hamilton went on to explain that he felt a sense of “responsibility” to ensure that the film’s cast is diverse, especially when it comes to female representation in the world of Formula One.
“I want to make the movie, in terms of like having diversity and representation, I want it to be as Formula 1 should be in the future – or should be now, but will be in the future. I want to see female mechanics. We would love to see a female driver. We haven’t gotten to that point just yet. But why not? Right now, we’ve still got the script. We’ve gone through quite a few different iterations of it. We’re still waiting for a new rewrite, and that’s the whole process. But I was doing that throughout Christmas. It’s exciting. I’m excited to get the next end of the script. I was talking to Brad last night about the characters that we have coming.”
