Letsa Go! The Newest Super Mario Bros. Movie Trailer is Here!

Super Mario, two words that most even faintly familiar with video games would recognize.  Of course, with so much weight on the name, one expects a movie to do it justice.  Of course, there was a live-action attempt in the 90s.  But the less that’s said about that film the better.

Still, it seems Nintendo and Illumination are up to the challenge.  During a Nintendo Direct at 5PM, Nintendo and Illumination released another trailer for the upcoming The Super Mario Bros. Movie. Aside from more of a look at Bowser, Mario, Luigi, and Toad, this time we have our first look at Princess Peach(Anya Taylor-Joy) and Donkey Kong(Seth Rogen).  The trailer shows a bit more of what to expect from the movie, and it seems there are some changes to a few characters this time around.  Filling in the role of damsel-in-distress the iconic Princess does not, instead that role seems to be going to Luigi.  No, rather, Peach seems to be taking more inspiration from the Super Mario Adventures comics from the early 90s.  In said comics, Peach was much more of an active force against Bowser.

In this trailer, Peach dons attire similar to her biker outfit from the Mario Kart series, fitting given the heavy references to the series present in the trailer.  As well as changes in character, the designs have notable overhauls.  Donkey Kong’s redesign now implements elements similar to his 80s design, being far more cartoony and expressive.  Bowser has more broad shoulders and green tints and Peach’s face is slightly more round.
