Letitia Wright Clarifies Her Comments on Black Panther 3

Black Panther star Letitia Wright hopes there’s a third movie in the franchise but reveals it’s not confirmed yet.

At the end of last year, Marvel Studios closed its 2022 calendar with the premiere of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. The long-awaited sequel became one of the most emotional projects in the franchise, as it had to honor its main protagonist after his passing. Letitia Wright‘s Shuri was commissioned to take up the mantle of Chadwick Boseman’s T’Challa, becoming the new Black Panther.

Since the premiere, fans have been wondering if Wright will get the chance to don the costume of the Wakandan heroine again in an upcoming film. Last month, in fact, the actress seemed to confirm that the film was already in development (via Variety):

“I think it’s already in the works. You know, we just had a terrific two years of just bringing it out and everybody coming together to support it. We need a little bit of a break, we need to regroup, and Ryan [Coogler] needs to get back into the lab so it’s going to take a while, but really excited for you guys to see that.”

However, she had to clarify her own words in a recent interview with Buzzfeed:

“What I tried to say, maybe I didn’t do it clearly enough, to clarify, there is always the hope that you would have another film, especially in a franchise. If there is to be another film, which I hope there will be, I think there will be; it takes time to make it; you have to go through the script process.”

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever Also Sets Up the Future for Namor

Shuri might not be the only protagonist of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever to get a new movie. Namor, the Tenoch Huerta character who was introduced in the film, could become a big name in the future of the MCU.

In Wakanda Forever, Namor was presented as a mutant just like Kamala Khan, so both could be central to the X-Men’s official introduction into the franchise. It could also appear in the Fantastic Four movie, as there is a relationship between the superhero family and the character. Thunderbolts would be another good choice, considering he was introduced as some sort of villain or anti-hero, the same nature as the ones we’ll see in the upcoming film.

In a recent appearance on the Black Panther Podcast, Kevin Feige revealed that they have many possible stories to tell with Namor, but that at the moment, he cannot give details about them.
