Summary

  • David Corenswet, the chosen actor to play Superman in Superman: Legacy, is undergoing physical changes to prepare for the role.
  • Fans have reacted positively to Corenswet’s physical transformation, with many noting his increased size and resemblance to Henry Cavill.
  • The biggest challenge for Corenswet will be capturing the essence of the character, as Superman: Legacy aims to present a more classic version of the superhero’s story and personality.

Superman: Legacy may not have begun shooting yet (and may even end up being delayed due to the current strikes in Hollywood), but the latest Man of Steel actor, David Corenswet, has now started to get ready to become the newest version of the comic book icon in the first official film of the new DCU. Back in June, Warner Bros. Pictures and DC Studios confirmed that the star of Ryan Murphy’s Hollywood was the chosen one to play one of the most popular superheroes in the world for one of the upcoming projects for the new franchise, along with The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’s Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane.

Superman: Legacy is set to hit theaters in 2025, which means it’ll probably start filming soon (or at least when the current crisis within the industry allows it), but David Corenswet needs to prepare for the role before stepping a foot on set for the first time, and it seems like he’s doing it. And doing it well.

Corenswet is currently working on a documentary by John Schueler, and some new images of him from behind the scenes have now surfaced online, teasing the progress of his physical change for his upcoming role as Superman. You can see these images below via John Schueler Foundation on Facebook:

Some other comments focused on how similar to Henry Cavill Corenswet looks, which has been a constant debate among DC fans after the actor was chosen, since many did not want anyone but Cavill to play the character.

But the biggest challenge for Corenswet won’t be changing physically, but to be able to capture the essence of the character. Cavill’s version was much darker than the usual Superman, since he was part of Zack Snyder’s vision, who aimed to deliver something completely different to what Marvel Studios was doing with their franchises. Gunn, on the other hand, will likely want to capture a more classic version of Superman’s story and personality, probably much closer to what The CW is doing with Tyler Hoechlin’s version in Superman & Lois, which many fans have been praising since the first season.

We do know that Superman: Legacy won’t be an origin story for the character. Instead it will focus of a Clark Kent dealing with his double life as a journalist and the hero of Metropolis in a world that already has many superheroes. So the development of the character will be something really important.

The cast of Superman: Legacy also includes Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner/Green Lantern, Edi Gathegi as Michael Holt/Mr. Terrific, Isabela Moner as Hawkgirl, and Anthony Carrigan as Rex Manson/Metamorpho, and will be written and directed by James Gunn.
