A new Man of Steel movie is on its way, with the love story of Clark Kent and Lois Lane taking the center of the stage, so a fan imagines Superman: Legacy as a romantic comedy referencing an all-time classic for the genre.
The last time fans enjoyed the adventures of Superman on the big screen, the character was played by Henry Cavill and was part of the Snyderverse, which presented a dark, raw and almost biblical version of the DC Comics mythology, focusing on the conflicts around the existence of superheroes. Even though Cavill’s portrayal of the Last Son of Krypton was mostly praised by the audience, James Gunn and Peter Safran have decided to leave the actor aside and bring a new star for their soon-to-be rebooted universe.
That’s how David Corenswet came into the picture. Earlier this year, the actor was chosen along with The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel‘s Rachel Brosnahan to play Clark Kent and Lois Lane in the upcoming film, directed and written by Gunn himself. Little is known about the story the Guardians of the Galaxy helmer wants to tell, or the tone the movie will have, but is safe to say that will be different from what Zack Snyder did, and that the relationship between Clark and Lois will play an important part within the plot.
That’s why X user @legacy_updates imagined the movie as a romantic comedy, publishing a fan poster that features the two characters with the title When Clark Met Lois, referencing the iconic When Harry Met Sally:
When Harry Met Sally is a 1989 film directed by Rob Reiner starring Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal, and it is considered as one of the greatest exponents within the romantic comedy genre, and the film that made Ryan the undisputed queen of this type of production during the 90s.
What Superman: Legacy Can Learn from Superman & Lois
Over the years, many Man of Steel-centric productions have explored the romance between Lois and Clark in depth. But the ones that really put the focus on that bond were two television series. Both Lois & Clark and Superman & Lois gave much more importance to the relationship between their protagonists than any other aspect of the Last Son of Krypton’s life, which helped to show much more of the human side of the character.
However, The CW series has been highly praised by fans for having found the perfect balance in the duality inside Clark Kent, exploring his conflicts as a husband, father and humanity’s greatest hero, giving so much time on screen on his human side as well as the heroic one. And it is this balance one of the best lessons Superman: Legacy could learn from the series.
Superman: Legacy also stars Nathan Fillion, Isabela Moner, Anthony Carrigan, and Edi Gathegi, and is set to hit theaters on July 11, 2025.
