David Corenswet’s Man of Steel is ready to show the world who he is under Clark Kent’s glasses in Superman: Legacy fan made trailer, anticipating the first official movie from James Gunn’s DCU.
After the big failure of Superman Returns in 2006, and with Marvel Studios dominating the superhero scene with the MCU, Warner Bros. Pictures and DC tried to build a new universe based on the characters of the comic book company. To do so, they called Zack Snyder, who already had some experience into the genre after taking the Watchmen to the big screen. That’s how, in 2013, Henry Cavill debuted as the Lats Son of Kypton in Man of Steel, which was meant to be the first movie of a big franchise.
In 2016, the story continued with Batman v Superman, which was also a bit hit such as the previous film, but it was heavily criticized. With the Marvel Cinematic Universe stealing the spotlight with more family friendly stories and using a lot of humor, the studio edited 2016’s Suicide Squad to look more similar to the competence’s movies, and they deliver another flop, slammed by fans and the media. In 2017, after Snyder had to abandon the project, Justice League came out, a film that wa finished by Joss Whedon, and put the last nail on the DCU‘s coffin, even when the franchise had big hits like Wonder Woman or Aquaman.
Movies kept coming out, and although most of them included Easter Eggs or references to the Snyderverse, all felt disconnected. That’s why, after Warner Bros. and Discovery merged, CEO David Zaslav announced they wanted to give the franchise a fresh started by creating a division exclusively dedicated to DC projects. That’s how DC Studios was born, with James Gunn and Peter Safran in charge. Earlier this year, the co-CEOs announced the first productions that were going to be part of the first phase of the new DCU, including Superman: Legacy.
Superman Reveals His Secret Identity to the World
Earlier this year, Gunn spoke about some of the differences between the Marvel and DC, noticing how most of the heroes from the first one are out to the world and don’t have secret identities, something that’s very common for the characters form the latter. In fact, DC’s trinity, which is made up by Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman, all have secret identities, while all the original Avengers don’t.
In the latest fan made trailer, published by Screen Culture, Superman: Legacy takes an unexpected turn by revealing David Coreswet’s Superman’s true self to the world:
Superman: Legacy will ve directed by James Gunn himself, based on a script written by him too. Joining Corenswet will be Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner aka Green Lantern, and Edi Gathegi as Mr. Terrific. The movie is set to hit theaters on July 11, 2025.
