Legacy Fan Art Featuring Green Lantern, Hawkgirl & More

Legacy Fan Art Featuring Green Lantern, Hawkgirl & More

Summary

  • James Gunn shares stunning fan art of Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl and Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific for Superman: Legacy.
  • Nathan Fillion will play Guy Gardner, the cocky Green Lantern, in Superman: Legacy, as shown in the fan art shared by James Gunn.
  • Other artwork includes Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, but sadly no David Corenswet as the Man of Steel.

Several DCU characters have been immortalized in stunning new fan art. True, Superman: Legacy doesn’t open in theaters until 2025, but diehard fans of the Man of Steel can’t wait to see James Gunn’s version of the DC superhero take flight. And Gunn has shared some new artwork online to try and whet the appetites of those longing to see the new big-screen incarnation of Supes. Check out the four images Gunn shared via his Instagram story (per @DCU_Updates) below:

The comic book-inspired fan covers feature Isabela Merced suited up as Hawkgirl. The actress’ impressive 10-year career features key roles in films like Transformers: The Last Knight, Sicario: Day of the Soldado & Dora and the Lost City of Gold. In Superman: Legacy, Merced will take up Hawkgirl’s trademark mace.

Actor Edi Gathegi takes on the role of Mister Terrific in Superman: Legacy, and he is also one of the heroes featured in the new fan art. Gathegi was one of the villainous vampires, Laurent, who crossed paths with the Cullen family in Twilight and New Moon. Gathegi’s Matias Solomon also squared off against Red (James Spader) in The Blacklist.

This stunning art comes courtesy of @davi_a86, who has shared a few more pieces, including Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and Nathan Fillion sporting Guy Gardner’s iconic bowl cut.

Superman: Legacy Will Be the Beginning of the DCU

DC Comics

James Gunn’s Instagram story also features actor Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern. Fillion’s stint as the GL will not be as the most well-known Emerald Knight, Hal Jordan. Rather, Fillion will play the cocky loudmouthed Guy Gardner who is portrayed in the new fan art running his big mouth. Gardner says, “There’s room for only one Green Lantern… me!”

The dialogue pays homage to the classic comic book Green Lantern No. 59 (1968). That issue marked the very first appearance of Guy Gardner’s character in DC’s source material. And on the cover, Gardner stands triumphantly over Hal Jordan. Gardner says: “Get off this Earth, Hal Jordan! There’s room for only one Green Lantern… me!” Meanwhile, actor Anthony Carrigan is depicted in another piece as character Rex Mason, aka Metamorpho.

Sadly, none of the new artwork features David Corenswet’s Man of Steel. And with all the rumors running rampant about Jason Momoa playing Lobo and not Aquaman in the DCU, a piece of fan art posted by Gunn could have ended the debate. Recently, “sources” have claimed that Momoa is turning in his trident and donning Lobo’s dark locks in the DCU. Here’s what was written in the report:

“In fact, none of the stars cast by Zack Snyder for 2016’s ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’ and 2017’s ‘Justice League’ — including Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Ezra Miller and Momoa — will reprise their roles in the new DC universe in character. Momoa may return, just not as Aquaman. Sources say the actor has engaged in talks to play Lobo, either in the 2025 reboot ‘Superman: Legacy,’ written and directed by Gunn, or in a standalone film.”

The red flag accompanying this report comes here: “Momoa may return…” There’s no “may” for Momoa. The actor, Gunn and Peter Safran met, and Momoa teased fans with four more years (per Looper). So, take all this “sourced” information — or perhaps misinformation — with a pinch of salt until Gunn himself makes an official announcement.

Written and directed by James Gunn, Superman: Legacy is scheduled to be released on July 11, 2025.
