Learn Marvel History With These “First Appearance” Pins

One of my favorite kinds of pins that Disney has released lately revolves around Marvel. As opposed to just creating merchandise based on the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Disney has really embraced the storied history of Marvel’s most popular characters and made pins based on past television shows and comics.

Earlier this month, we saw a set of pins based on Iron Man: The Animated Series. Now, Disney is going back even further, and has created a line of pins based on famous superheroes’ “first appearance” in comic books!

When visiting the Pin Traders – Camera Center at EPCOT today, we noticed that the store got four new “first appearance” pins based on Iron Man and Spider-Man. Here is what we found!

Iron Man’s First Appearance

First up, we have this first appearance of Iron Man pin.

The front of the pin is based on Iron Man’s debut in Marvel’s Tales of Suspense comic series.

This early version of Iron Man had no bells and whistles and looks awfully heavy

The pin is a faithful recreation of Iron Man’s first comic cover, showing the moment that Tony Stark became Iron Man.

If you open this you can see a frame that reads “Iron Man is Born!” The inside cover also gives the issue number and date of the comic book on the front! How cool!

Thanos’ First Appearance

The next first appearance pin features an issue of the Invincible Iron Man. If you just looked at the front cover, you would probably be confused about what you are looking at. Little-known Marvel characters the Blood Brothers appear here.

When the pin is opened up, however, all things become clear. This 1973 comic was actually the world’s introduction to Thanos the Mad Titan!

Spider-Man’s First Appearance

The third new arrival to come into EPCOT features everyone’s favorite friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.

The front of the pin features Spider-Man’s debut in the Amazing Fantasy comic book series.

Inside the pin, Spider-Man warns the world that they “better hang onto their hat.”

For those who don’t know, Spider-Man made his first appearance in Amazing Fantasy #15 in 1962.

Green Goblin’s First Appearance

Last but not least, we have a pin from the Amazing Spider-Man series.

This comic featured the first ever battle between Spider-Man and his arch nemesis the Green Goblin. Inside the pin, Spider-Man seems to have defeated the Goblin.

The Green Goblin made his first appearance in Amazing Spider-Man #14 in 1964. Here is a fun fact, this comic also featured a special appearance by the Hulk!

Where To Get Them

If you want to get your hands on any of these Marvel “first appearance” pins, be sure to visit Pin Traders – Camera Center on your next trip to EPCOT. The pins are limited edition, and only 2,000 of each were released. So, if you want to get one, act quickly!
