HBO’s newest Sunday night drama is the DCU’s Lanterns. Aaron Pierre stars as John Stewart, a former Marine who has spent his whole life training to become the Earth’s next Green Lantern. Kyle Chandler plays Hal Jordan, the first ever human Green Lantern, who is none too pleased to be tasked with training Stewart to be his eventual replacement. While DECIDER can confirm that future episodes will show these characters zooming around outer space, what makes Lanterns so impressive is how it takes one of DC’s most cosmic sagas and brings it down to Earth. John and Hal find themselves trying to solve a perplexing murder mystery in the middle of Nebraska. It’s a seemingly simple case with potentially cataclysmic implications for the future of the Lanterns and life on Earth. Lanterns is gritty, intriguing, and great fun.
