Though we’re all excited to see the big blockbusters that come out of 2023, we’re also looking ahead to 2024 and picking out the top titles that we know will deliver. One of those is the sequel to Todd Phillips’ 2019 film Joker, titled Joker: Folie à Deux. The second movie will see Joaquin Phoenix return as the titular character, along with Zazie Beetz as Sophie. Exciting news came last year when it was announced Lady Gaga would be joining the cast as beloved DC character Harley Quinn, and artists have been imagining what that could look like.
Lady Gaga rose to fame as a musician, of course, but has since become a movie star. Her biggest films include A Star is Born, for which she was nominated for an Academy Award, and House of Gucci. We have no doubt she’ll receive critical acclaim for her upcoming role in Joker: Folie à Deux.

Pretty awesome! I’m personally really excited to see Gaga acting alongside Phoenix, as he’s one of my favorite actors.
Just like Phoenix isn’t the first actor (or the last) to play the Joker on the big screen, fans of the DC Universe know Gaga won’t be the first actress to portray Harley Quinn. Academy Award nominee Margot Robbie played the fan-favorite character in the films Suicide Squad, Birds of Prey, and The Suicide Squad. In October 2022, Robbie talked to MTV News about Gaga taking on the role, as reported by Deadline, and only had supportive things to say:
“It makes me so happy because I said from the very beginning, all I want is for Harley Quinn to be one of those characters, the way like Macbeth or Batman always gets passed from great actor to great actor.”
“I think she’ll do something incredible with it,” Robbie added.
Fingers crossed that in 2023 we’ll get the first look and maybe even a trailer for Joker: Folie à Deux. We cannot wait to see what Gaga will look like as the classic DC character.
