Every year, the red carpet at the American Music Awards are full of bold fashion statements. These are musicians and performers, after all—they know a thing or two about dramatic style.
Kim Petras used her fashion choices to pay homage to Britney Spears. Specifically, she recreated the iconic denim gown that Spears famously wore to the AMAs back in 2001 (with then-boyfriend Justin Timberlake in a matching denim tuxedo, no less).
Spears’s patchwork denim gown—complete with the matching jean bag and a crystal choker necklace—are one of the most famous red carpet looks from the AMAS, so it’s no wonder Petras felt inspired to revive the look. She did so by slipping into a strapless denim gown from Blumarine’s spring 2023 collection, which was very 2000s. It had a deliberately-faded wash, studded piping, and a big “B” belt buckle (for Blumarine—though, in this case, it could also stand for Britney).
